How to plant Fig trees

September 2012 lead me to one of the "easiest" methods of planting trees - growing new trees from cuttings. So my love for figs lead me to this,as i will share with you some photos of my cuttings i did back then and hopefully if i have time to show you how they look now.I experimented a bit- put some cuttings in water till they got roots( approximately it took 1 month ) and planted them but i don't think the location was good. Other part of the cuttings were planted on different locations just after the cut was made, and 4-5 others putted in pots but only 3 are alive and i don't know how of them are gonna make it till spring. There are few reasons why the cuttings that are in pots may die- the soil is too moist, too dry, or if you have the biggest problem i find there is... CATS...yes my cats eat a lot of my plantings so it is very hard to get something grow in my home without the cats try to eat it :) So I'm going to share the best way i think is to grow a fig tree from cutting.

How to plant fig trees from cuttings:

Before i start i want to say this is the best way I think you can succeed to get a fig tree grow.

1.You need to find a fig and cut new branches (1-2 year old) at least 40 centimeters. The most important thing in this part is that the branch must have at least one bud.If there are leafs of fruits you must remove them so all energy goes for new roots.

2.Put the cuttings in separate bottles or any other device you want to use. The bottles can be filled with normal water or with willow water( mix of cutted willow leafs with water). The willow water is used to stimulate root growth and to kill some of the fungi that may grow. The fungi that may grow is the main reason to put the cuttings in separate bottles.

3.Once the cuttings get their roots (it takes about 4-6 weeks) you can plant your fig.Be sure to plant it in spring or early autumn. The hole must be not deeper than 40 centimeters if you followed part 1 and it is very important to be dry so the roots don't die.The fig must be at least 2/4 in the ground, some people put it 3/4 but it seems very little(so you wont eat figs that soon :).

4.Once the hole is filled and the fig is planted put dry grass on the top of the hole and near the fig.It will keep it warm for the winter.Fig trees seem to freeze in temperatures of about -20 C.

5.Water the figs depending on the sunlight they get.The love the morning sunlight and prefer sunny places. The hardest thing is watering actually. You must find the balance so the cuttings don't dry or get too moist.

I will try to add photos of the process but this will happen in later post.I hope this topic helped you and you planted your own figs.More about the figs- soon... :)
And this will be the first sign your tree is alive

Jujube(the beggining)

Jujube or also known as Chinese Lance is the first tree i planted. I couldn't find photos from the planting process but i found some from the first and second year after the planting. When spring comes and the tree grows some leafs i will post new photos. The second year i wanted to plant something around the tree and i got around 12 bean seeds i put in the soil and didn't even expect them to grow much. Well i will tell you what happened with the beans in the next posts. Now let me share the first tree i planted

Indian woman planted over 400 000 trees

Hello again! The answer to yesteday question is -2000. The tree is approximately 2000 years old. Since i have exams at the moment and dont have time to upload pictures of what i do i will share with you this story that i find very motivateing and surely 1 man (in this case woman) can make a change.
The story is about a Indian woman named Raj Sharma. This woman was able to plant over 400 000 for 46 years of her life. She planted all the trees in her home town in Utar Pradesh. This magnificent woman participated in many ecological programs. Most of the trees she planted near her house. The trees are home to thousands of birds, a baboon called May and many martens.
" I nuture these plants like my children" she said.
Everyday Sharma saved around 50 cent from the family budget to buy new trees. She wants to plant at least 1 million trees and it is even written in her death note. Her children can take her heritage when the last tree is planted. I hope this inspired you to do good!

Wellcome to all!

Wellcome naturelovers!

Hi and wellcome to my new blog. In this blog i want to share pictures and hopefully videos of my tree plantations and everything related to trees and nature. I love the nature and i want to help save the planet somehow and i believe that if every living person could plant at least 1 tree per year ,there would be no global warming and many other problems. So back to the topic- it is January, the weather outside is too cold to plant anything so i will post thing i got in my archive related to the nature topic and things that motivate me to go furhter. So for start im gonna post a picture of this tree and will leave you for a while to guess how old is it :)
